sober college girl...

So, I just read this article on College Fashion and found it pretty interesting. I'm usually "the sober girl" at parties and am pretty much always the DD. This isn't always the case, but for the most part I chose my DC over a beer. I like to think that I'm still doing a good job of setting an example as a Christian even when I am surrounded by alcohol and partying. Most people that I have met that didn't really know me well have said they thought I was stuck up or judged others who did choose to drink a lot, but that has never been the case. To each his own. I know that college is filled with alcohol and drugs and partying. I just choose not to participate. I have friends that do but it doesn't mean I have to. For the first year and a half that I was in college I didn't go downtown at all..not once. But after AKL and I had been together for a year or so I started going with him and his friends and realized I didn't have to drink to have a good time. I have had a lot of fun every time I have gone. Most of my friends don't understand this but at least I have 3 that do. My roomies and one of my best friends Jessica are the same way I am. I'm also super glad that I have a bf who is 23 and didn't drink or go out at all until he was he gets me and understands where I'm coming from.

Sometimes I wonder if I'll look back on my college years later on in life and regret that I didn't let myself go and do crazy things...but then I think about the way I want people to remember me and I don't want to be remembered as someone who was always drunk...

Now with all this being said I am far from a bump on a log that just sits at home on the weekends.. I get dressed up all cutesy and go out pretty much every weekend I just choose to be in control of myself at all times.

This weekend has been a busy one!

AKL moved into his new condo so I have been helping him with all of that.

This weekend has also been ALL about some birthdays!
Yesterday was Adam's cousin's little girls 5th birthday & today is my cousin Taylor's 21st birthday!
Last night we went to the Terrapin Brewery in Athens. They have tours and you can get samples of all the different kinds of beers and people just hang out on the lawn. It was misserably hot but it was still a good time. After that the parents and grandparents went to dinner and Adam and I went to Taylor's house for a party with all his friends. It was a lot of fun : ) Our parents surprised us by showing up with "Taylor Fest 21" signs on! Ha, it was HILARIOUS! People were so confused as to why there were parents at a college party..but they figured it out & loved it!
The parents left & we all went downtown and it was a really fun time : )

(blurry picture taken with my iPhone..Colleen *Taylor's gf*, Aunt, Mom, & me)

Taylor and Colleen came over this morning to see CG : )

& also today we celebrated Kendall's 5th birthday! It was SO great to see Adam's parents and the rest of his family.. I just love them so much : ) Kendall is the cutest little girl ever and she had a great day!

Kendall has a horse named Rose and today she got a riding helmet and these adorable brown and pink cowgirl boots...she LOVED them !

Now I'm off to take a test for my online class and eat dinner with the fam : )

Hope y'all had a great weekend !!

I have an upgrade in September so maybe I'll get it then : )

Go on over to Taylor's blog and join in on TTT!

Sorry I have been MIA from the blog world for so long.. it was a BUSY weekend to say the least!

So I'll go ahead and explain Carolyne Grace's unexpected birth!

On Thursday my SIL chelsea went to the dr for her 38 week appt. We knew there may be a chance he would send her to the hospital because she was 2cm at her 37 week appt and if she was 4 he would send her. So we all waited for the phone call and after her appt she called to say she hadn't changed and that the dr was going to induce on the 24th. So we all went on about our day. I had a hair appt at 3:00 and while I was there Chelsea called me. I didn't answer it and didn't call her back until I was in the car. When I called he she said "I don't know if your dad told you or not but we're on our way to the ER, I'm bleeding ALOT and we don't know what's going on" so of course I didn't know what to say and I didn't want to freak her out anymore so I just said "Okay, keep me updated..." Then I ran back in the salon and asked them if I could dry my hair *they just gave me a trim and I figured I would just be going home so I didn't have them dry it* I started running around that salon like a chicken with its head cut off.. I was freaking out! I didn't know what was going on with my SIL and niece but I also didn't want to go to the hospital with sopping wet hair if we were going to be staying there for a while. So after I dried my hair I drove 498mph to the hospital. When I got there Chelsea was in a room at Labor and Delivery. The nurses started monitoring her and determined the blood was because she lost her mucus plug. The nurses called her dr and explained everything.. and he said to SEND HER HOME! We were all upset about it because Chelsea was bleeding ALOT & with this being her first pregnancy she didn't really know what was going on and was really nervous (even though the nurses promised that all the blood was normal and was just her cervix opening up more). So after the dr told the nurse to send her home she came back in the room and told us that she wasn't going to send Chelsea home that she had a feeling she was going into early labor. So they monitored her for the next few hours and kept her over night. Me and my parent's went home and came back to the hospital at 7am the next morning. Chelsea's dr came in around 9 and broke her water...and around 11 he started pitocen. (I bet he was glad the nurse didn't send her home like he wanted her to! geez..) Chelsea was 4-5cm when he checked her at 11:00. When he checked her again at 12:20 she was FULLY dialated!! : ) So she started pushing around 1:10 & Carolyne Grace Almand Benson was born at 1:54p.m.

It was SO unexpected but it was the greatest weekend of my life so far. She's not even my baby but I love her so much. She is AMAZING!!! She's a tiny little girl, but her and mommy are both doing perfect.

Chelsea only gained 10 lbs the whole pregnancy and lost it instantly when she gave birth.. She's already back in her pre-pregger clothes!

We're taking CG to her first dr's appt today : ) & then taking her to my work for a baby shower for one of my co-workers (post on that later) & to show her off of course!

Carolyne Grace

Chelsea has been in labor since about 4:30 this afternoon. She was about 3-4cm the last time they checked (about 7pm) the dr is coming in the morning to check her and will probably start pitocin. We're hoping to meet Carolyne Grace sometime tomorrow!! My mom is super happy because tomorrow is her birthday and she will probably be sharing it with her granddaughter : )

Please keep Chelsea, Brett, and Carolyne Grace in your prayers as they begin their lives as a family of three!

I'm heading back to the hospital around 6:30am and I will post pictures as soon as CG arrives!!

The adventures of Thor!!

Adam and I drove back from the beach today. It's bittersweet because I will miss the beach so much until next year and having to come back to work and this school work is not cool, BUT on the flip side Chelsea is going to be induced a week from today if CarolyneGrace doesn't come before then : )

Our beach trip was short & sweet. I loved being with my family & AKL. I hate that my mom and brother and sister-in-law couldn't come though.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was the first day when we were on the beach this little action figure guy floated up and one of my aunt's friends picked it up and we started messing around taking pictures of him doing funny things.. eventually this turned into the main part of our trip! (it's funny the things that make us laugh..) We gave him the name Thor and we showed him a great time on Tybee!

The first night around midnight we randomly decided to go out to some bars....after a few drinks my dad offically named the trip "BENSON FEST 2010" We made signs and had everyone on the island believing it was a real thing & that they were not cool for not knowing about it.. SO funny..
(maybe it's not that funny and maybe you had to be there or know my family..but to us it was hilarious and we had a GREAT time!!)

The one word I would use to describe this vacation is WILD! There was never a dull moment : )

Off to the beach we go...

We're heading down to Tybee Island today as soon as Adam gets done re-sodding Sanford Stadium...

(he sent me this pic from his phone)

We're just going down for about a week. We can't get too far because my sister-in-laws due date is in 2 weeks and if for some reason Carolyne Grace decides to come early I gotta be ready to scoot my boot back to Athens! Luckily Tybee is only 3 1/2 hours away.

Here's us at a restaurant in Tybee last year : )

Can't wait to be on the beach...
