Getting Real

Andy Stanley did a series this past summer called The New Rules For Love, Sex, and Dating. He went on a popular morning radio show here in Atlanta and asked the public questions about love, sex, and dating. He came on the show not as some religious pastor, but as someone genially concerned for the well-being of our generation.

I loved listening to my pastor, on a radio station, talking real-talk with people who would other wise never listen to him. I loved hearing the opinions of those in our city. I loved that they were so honest.

In the world we live it is so common for people to have sex before marriage, to live with people before they get married, to have children before they live together or get married. But what if that wasn't the norm? What if we could change the way people think about love, sex, and dating. What if women weren't treated as a game, what if women honored their bodies and respected themselves? What if people lived their love lives the way Christ intended us to?

I'm not saying I'm some saint. I've made mistakes. I've struggled with not feeling good enough for Jesus. Why would He love someone like me anyway?

Throughout college I constantly surrounded myself with authentic believers and I came to understand that I am exactly the kind of person Jesus loves. Broken and all. He died for me. A sinner.

After listening to all four parts of The New Rules For Love, Sex, and Dating I can't help but wish I had heard these sermons years ago. Would it have changed things for me? Who knows. But what I do know is that I can help change things for someone else. My 6th grade small group girls, who look up to their three leaders, I can help change their lives. I can show them how to love, I can show them how to respect their bodies, I can show them Jesus.

Girls, we don't have to listen to what culture tells us about love. We don't have to conform to the norms. Sure it's awkward and weird to not do things like everyone else. But really, isn't our relationship with Christ more important than what the world says about us? Isn't our future relationship with our husband more important?

Guys, can your masculinity be defined by how much you love Jesus and not by how many girls you can hook up with? Isn't it more important to establish a firm relationship with Christ and be able to lead your {future} wife the way God intended you to?

I encourage anyone.. girls, guys, singles, married people, EVERYONE.. to watch this series. I promise you won't be disappointed. It's a game changer.

Be Blessed,

An Early Christmas

This past Sunday Adam and I went out to his parent's house to celebrate Christmas with his family. His parents surprised me with a David Yurman Cable bracelet.. I was shocked! They are the best :)

Last night I talked Adam into giving me my present from him early. I already knew what it was and the anticipation was killing me! Love my Revas!!

Today at work we had our white elephant gift exchange. Last year my present was an old family picture of me, my parents, and my brother (think church bulletin). My dad is their boss so everyone thought it was hilarious. The rules were that whoever recieved the picture had to hang it in their office for the rest of the year and then bring it back to the white elephant gift exchange this year.

I recieved a lovely zebra neck rest ;)

Tomorrow Jessica and I are going to lunch and exchanging gifts. Then hopefully I can wait until Christmas Eve to open any more ;)

I hope everyone is enjoying Christmas WEEK with their loved ones :)

A grade, a baby, and a baptism!

Ok y'all I just have to vent for just a second. Last night I went to check one of my grades and was fully expecting an A.. but what I saw was so insane that I still can't fully wrap my mind around it...

An 89.5 B??? I seriously had a heart attack. I honestly don't care that it's a B.. but an 89.5???? I emailed my professor and pleaded my case as to why he should round it a mere .1 point so that I would get an A in the class. I gave him 24 hours and just sent another e-mail because he still hasn't responded. I'm usually not this crazy about grades but it's just SO close... :/ THIS.WILL.HAUNT.ME!

Sorry, rant over.

*Update on grade: Professor never emailed me back BUT when I checked my final grades today I had all A's*
THANK.YOU.GOD !

On to much more important things :)

Some random pictures I never blogged of my cute niece :)

And my BFF got baptized this past weekend! Be sure to check out my post Friday on Fearless for a full recap of the day.. let's just say you'll be blown away by her testimony video!!!

That's all I've got friends!

XO, Jamie

Five on Friday

TGIF Y'all!!
This is a Friday I have been waiting on since August.. I am officially finished with fall semester of my FOURTH year of college.. unbelieveable. I honestly feel like I started college last year.. so crazy how fast it's going by.

Anyway.. here are a few things I'm thinking about on this amazing Friday.

(1) Best friends.
I will see all of these lovely ladies tomorrow for a wedding shower for our friend, Bree :)

Even though we change and we're all finding our own place in the world, we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we'll come to each other because no matter where this crazy life takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point that were not still friends.

(2) Christmas lights.
Adam and I are decorating his portch tonight :)

(3) Holiday nails.

(4) Relaxing {FINALLY!}

(5) Christmas baking

Live 31

Y'all may have seen this going around Facebook, but it is too good not to share...

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate
.

Be a Proverbs 31 women.

Sexual Healing

The poem highlights our culture's blind obedience to sexual norms, when it only seems to reap destruction. Pleasure is more at our fingertips in America than ever before, and yet depression steadily rises every year. It only shows that sex as recreation, or just for fun, is unable to satisfy us the way we were meant to be satisfied. Sex is good, in it's proper context. This poem mainly focuses though on anyone who has been deeply affected, hurt, and damaged by sexual sin. Forgiveness and mercy are given freely by Jesus. He cleans, restores, and heals us beyond measure and asks nothing in return. He saw all our sin and filth before he went to the cross and it was still his joy to go get us.

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."~Matthew 11:28-30 The Message

My Christmas Wish List!

Just thought I would share with y'all some of the things that are on my wish list for Christmas, maybe they will help you think of some more goodies to add to your list ;) I know Christmas is not all about presents, but I think presents are fun.. so here we go..

1. Tory Burch Revas
To me, these are the perfect flats, they are stylish yet simple. Pretty sure these will be coming my way via the boyfriend ;)

2. Clarisonic Mia
This is probably the gift I am most excited about. I love washing my face. I seriously look forward to getting ready for bed every night. I have used a similar device, which I loved, but am really excited to try this one out, I have heard nothing but rave reviews!

Here are some of the benefits this revolutionary skincare tool delivers:
-Removes makeup six times better than traditional methods.
-Clears pores and reduces the appearance of pore size.
-Cleanses so thoroughly that skincare products absorb better.
-Creates noticeable healthier looking skin.

3. Chanel Chance
This is probably one of the most classic perfumes. It's simple and it's ME. I love it!

4. Michael Kors flats
I was actually with my mom when she got these for me!

Love them so much. We found them at Macy's but I can't find them on the website.

5. Hunter Wellies
I have been wanting these babies for a while now but never actually bought them for myself..perfect thing to add to my Christmas list ;) I'm really liking the dark green in the middle, but will probably settle for black so that it will go with everything.

6. J.Crew City Mini
I L.o.v.e this skirt. I need a lot of basics because I am in the Elementary school 2 1/2 days a week and have to dress professionally. This skirt is perfect for that :)

So those are just some of the things on my list.. I hope this helped y'all figure out some things you may want Santa to bring you this year ;)

What are you asking for for Christmas??

I am blogging over at Bloom today, go check it out! :)

Random Life Happenings

The semester is finally winding down and I feel like I am actually able to breathe again. Last week was tough for me.. I stressed myself out to the point of the worst migraine in the history of the world, THANKFULLY that is all over and done with.

So, what's been going on ??

Two Sundays ago Adam and I went to the Hillsong United-God is Able tour with Jessica and some other friends. We had a great time being with them and the concert was unbelievable.. I love Hillsong so much!

This past weekend was a BIG weekend in Bulldog Nation.

UGA played in the SEC Championship! They have had an amazing season. After losing our first two games we went on to win 8 in a row. It was awesome! Unfortunately we had to play LSU, the #1 team in the nation, in the SEC Championship. For the first half the boys held their own and I think they really surprised everyone, especially LSU. The second half was a different story. It was seriously like it was another game. We ended up losing 42-10. The Dawgs are headed to Tampa for the Outback Bowl, unfortunately I will not be able to attend because the game is the same day the Passion Conference starts. And sadly this will be the second year in a row Adam and I wont be together for New Years.. thank you UGA football!
Even though the game didn't end in our favor we still had a great time. I love that Adam works for the football team because that means we get AWESOME seats to all of the games.

Another reason why it was a big weekend in Bulldog Nation was because we had 28 Middle and High school students get baptized on Sunday at an event called United!
Here is a video of one of me and Jessica's 6th grade girls.

I love how our church does baptism. It really gives you a chance to hear people's stories and hear how God has changed their lives. It's an amazing experience.
Check out my post on Fearless today about baptism and how it represents God's goodness.

This weekend I am looking forward to a Christmas wedding shower for one of my really good friends from High school. I love that all of my friends from hs will be able to get together to celebrate Breanna!

I hope to get back to some regularly scheduled posts now that school is coming to an end :-)
