WILW

I'm linking up with Jamie today for WILW :-)

~I am LOVING that my roomie "officially" asked me to be one of her bridesmaids!
She designed these super cute cards..
She wrote "A true friend is the greatest of all blessings" on the outside.
& the inside says,
"It's hard for me to believe
that in just a little while,
Trey and I will be
walking down the aisle.
And nothing would give me
more joy and pride,
than to have you
right there by my side.
Will you be my Bridesmaid?"

and she wrote a little note in there too :-)

I am LOVING Essie's new fall collection, Brand New Bag.
I have tried two colors so far (Power Clutch & Case Study) and I can't wait to try the rest!!

Case Study
I am LOVING that I started my student teaching for the semester on Monday.
I am in a Kindergarten classroom in a Title 1 school & let's just say it's a tough class.
I am excited for the challenge & know it will only make me a better teacher in the future :-)

I am LOVING that UGA's season opener is on SATURDAY !!!!!
I CAN'T W A I T !

I am LOVING that my cousin just found out she is having T W I N S !
I am SO happy for her.. & can't wait to meet the little twinkies in March !

& finally I am LOVING this quote I found on my phone (I saw it on facebook a while ago, can't remember where, & saved it.)
"Being in God's will doesn't exempt you from problems.
God doesn't promise a carpet on the race track or a bed of roses on the battlefield.
But you can be "confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion." (Php 1:6 NIV)

~Hope y'all had a great Wednesday !!~

My Weekend~

~Just wanted to start by apologizing if you follow Jessica you have pretty much already seen most of this~ :-)

On Friday we had leader training at church, led by our student ministry pastor Charles Ficken.. he taught us some very valuable information that we can use with our kids. Jessica and I have been REALLY enjoying leading our 6th grade small group {we're even having our first "get together" this wknd, POOL PARTY!!}
After the training we stayed around to hang out~a dodge ball game got started but I sat out with our friend Ed who just had ACL surgery~I'm not very competitive like miss jessica who ran all over those boys ;-)
On Saturday I ran a 5k with my dad~check out the post below this for the pics ! My dad is an avid runner and runs 5 or 10k's every wknd so he was SO excited that I ran this one with him. I love spending time with my dad so this is just another thing we can do together!

Sundays are becoming my busiest day of the week (so much for having a "rest" day)
I start my day around 8am, get ready & head to the church for the middle school service at 10:30, this is when Jess & I lead our small group. Then I go straight to "the twelve" & then usually go eat lunch with Adam and friends, then go home for about an hr before I head back to church to do host team for the high school service, go home for about another hr, then straight to my small group. It's busy but soooo rewarding. I love every crazy second of it.

This past Sunday at small group we had a surprise party for Mr. Mark~
Mrs. Pam is my small group leader & Mr. Mark is a small group leader for guys. These two people are some of the most amazing people I've ever met. They open their house to 12 crazy college students EVERY Sunday, feed us dinner & share their hearts with us. It is SO nice to be "doing life" with other people who understand me and are on the same wave length, I am SO thankful for Athens Church. ~We are a satellite campus of North Point (Andy Stanley's church) so if you're familiar with anything that goes on there we do it the same way..~

some of the small group girls..
the boys
Mr. Mark & Mrs. Pam!!!
All the girlies (minus one!) :-)
Getting a ride from Westley back down to our cars ;-)
I strongly encourage anyone who goes to church to try and find a small group to get into. It is seriously one of the best decisions I've made in college and I am SO thankful for all of these amazing people.

~And on another note (this wasn't part of my weekend..) I started my part-time student teaching today! I am in the elementary school 2 1/2 days a week. This semester we are all in Title 1 schools~the school I am in is 90% free and reduced lunch. My Kindergarten classroom has 11 African Americans, 4 Hispanics, and 3 Asian Americans. I am SO excited to be working with these kids~they were all so sweet today & I can't wait to go back again on Wednesday :-)

**Hope y'all had a great weekend too!!**

~First Race~

I ran my first race ever this morning !

And guess what... I got 2nd place in my age group !!

~Had fun running with my daddy and our friend Allen~
Now I'm off to spend the rest of the day at the pool with my fam :-)

Happy Saturday !!

“You pretended the snooze button didn’t exist. You dragged your butt out of bed while others slept. While others ate their pancakes you had a feast of protein, glucose and electrolytes. You double-knotted. You left the porch light on and locked the door behind you. You ran. 5ks, 10ks, 26.2 miles. Some days more, some days less. You rewarded a long run with a short run. And a short run with a long run. Rain tried to slow you. Sun tried to microwave you. Snow made you feel like a warrior. You cramped. You bonked. You paid no mind to comfort. On weekends. On holidays. You made excuses to keep going. Questioned yourself. Played mind games. Put your heart before your knees. Listened to your breathing. Sweat sunscreen into your eyes. Worked on your farmers tan. You hit the wall. You went through it. You decided to be a man about it. You decided to be a woman about it. Finished what you started. Proved what you were made of. Just kept putting mile after mile on your internal odometer.”

It's Just Something I've Always Wanted to do...

This week as I've started back to school I have been challenged with the question of why I want to be a teacher. this is something that my professors always seem to ask on the first day. my answer is typically something along the lines of "it's just something i've always wanted to do..." and that is the truth, but there's much more to the story than just that.

(some of the people in my 1st grade class after performing a play)

I thought I would share a little bit with y'all about exactly WHY I have chosen to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education.

(Me and another student, Ryan, during writing time)

You see, when I was in 1st grade I was given one the best gifts I have EVER received. That gift was a 21-year old UGA graduate, first year teacher.

(Eating lunch in the classroom~that's me in the cheerleading uniform!)

A little background info: In Kindergarten I was tested for the gifted program (Focus). I passed the test and was admitted. Fast forward to first grade and I began a new school (due to some re-districting and a new elem school that was built). The principal wanted to try something new~she wanted to have all the gifted students be in one class--in other words, instead of being taken out to go to Focus for part of the day they would have a teacher who was certified to teach gifted.

(A few students *i'm in yellow* eating lunch in the classroom)

I still to this day remember meeting Miss Sherrill for the first time. She was the most beautiful women I had even seen. I still remember sitting on the little couch to have my picture taken. (still not sure why I'm not looking at the camera..ha!)

Over the course of the year she taught us all SO much. there is truly no way to put into words how it felt to be one of "Sherrill's Superstars". We were constantly being challenged and doing things well beyond our 6 yr old brains. One of my favorite things about her class was our "mini-society". Everyone in the class had a job (I was the art gallery owner, haha!) and we all worked together to make our town work. We all had checkbooks and received pay checks. If we wanted to go to the clinic we had to pay a co-pay, if we got in trouble we had to go to court (and if you did something really bad there would be a jury and a judge). ~Miss Sherrill always joked about how I would write people checks to clean out my desk!~ On Friday's we would have "restaurant" and there would be hosts, waiters and waitresses, cooks, and customers. We would get to go to the computer lab and find recipes we wanted to cook. She knew how to make learning fun.

here I am on one of those fridays...

At the end of our first grade year I can remember being SO sad that I wouldn't be in Miss Sherrill's class the next year and that all my friends wouldn't be with me (we were more like a family...) AND THEN.. Miss S announced to us that she would be moving up with us : ) So we got to all be together for another year! 2nd grade is when I decided I wanted to be a teacher so that I could be just like Miss S. and I have never changed my mind since.

(Eating lunch before going to see "Cats" at The Fox Theatre)

After teaching us in 2nd grade Miss S "retire
d" from teaching to go back to school. A few degrees later she now teaches education law at George Washington University and is still the most amazing person I know. To this day we all still talk to Miss S. And every year I still look forward to her sending me a birthday and Christmas card (more like a Christmas letter where she tells us briefly what she did every
month).
(Some students after our Christmas performance)

I know teachers like Miss Sherrill are one in a million but I will try my hardest to be as effective, loving, and caring as she was when I finally have my own classroom. So long story short, I want to be a teacher because if I can make ONE child feel the way Miss S made ME feel about learning then I will know I have done a good job.

(Wearing one of Miss S's old dance dresses~spend the night party at her apartment with all the girls in the class)
(Wearing our halloween costumes at school~even though we weren't supposed to Miss S snuck and let us do it any way ;-) )

In 2008 we all graduated from high school and guess who was there!
She came all the way from DC to see us graduate :-)
I'm sure it was a proud moment for her.
Now this year (and next.. haha 5 yr plan for me) some of us will be graduating from college and I can bet you a million dollars she will be at each and every one of them!
(at graduation~may 2008)

~I can't wait to be a teacher!~

Mid-week Randoms~

It's been a while!
So, instead of doing WILW today I decided to just tell y'all what I've been up to this last week!

~I started school today so I've spent the last week soaking in the last few days of summer!

*Last week I went and bought my bridesmaid dress for my cousin's wedding that's in a few weeks :)
~She ended up loving two different ones for us so half of us are wearing one and the other half are wearing the other. I am wearing a light purple Vera Wang dress.. I love it ! The other dress is similar but a semi different style and is dark purple. The combination looks great together though !

*On Sunday Jessica and I led our 6th grade small group.. we had a lot of fun playing the "human knot" game, even though we never got untangled !!

*Also on Sunday we had our first service of "The 12"!
"The 12" is our newest service that meets at 12pm and is specifically designed for college students and 20-somethings. It was AMAZING to see so many college students gathering together to worship! At one point I looked at Jessica and I was like "please turn around and look at how many people are here!!" it seriously took my breath away~

*I recently finished the 2nd book in the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury so I went today and got the 3rd book.. I wish this series would never end.. I love it so much !! I would strongly consider checking it out if you're into Christian fiction novels. You will fall in LOVE with the Baxter family!

*I had to take Lexie to the vet today for her annual exam and vaccines. We went to a new vet and I LOVED them~they were so sweet to my little girl who was TERRIFIED. We will definitely be going there from now on :)

yes, she needs a hair cut.. don't judge-shots are expensive enough, ha ha!

*and here are some random phone pictures from this week~if you follow me on twitter you've probably already seen all, if not most, of these :)

Adam's roommate, Thomas & Carolyne-Grace. He loves her so much so my brother and SIL brought her over to their house to play ;)

CG had her first kids meal at a restaurant tonight.. mac n cheese & mandarin oranges!

And Adam got to meet Jason Aldean yesterday!! He was in town for a benefit concert at the Georgia Theater and went to the football building for a tour.. & since Adam works there he got to meet him!
~Hope everyone's enjoying their week!
*Be on the look out for an updated apartment tour in the next week :)
P.s. I want to see everyone else's college apartments too!

WILW

I'm linking up with Jamie today for WILW :-)

~I am LOVING that I went home last night & we had family game night. We played this game called "Hedbanz"
It's a silly game for kids but we loved it--it was so much fun.. & some of the pictures were a lot harder than you would think.. you try trying to figure out you have a PENCIL on your head !!
me & my brother

~I am LOVING that starting this Sunday we are now going to have a worship service specifically designed for college age & singles. Being that our church is in Athens we have a large number of college students ((which is such an amazing thing to see every weekend, especially since UGA was voted the #1 party school last yr--I promise we're not all like that !)) the services were just becoming extremely crowded & with school starting up and students coming back into town the church thought it would be a great idea to devote an entire service just to us ! I can't wait to see how many people are there this wk !!

~I am LOVING that Jessica and I had our first Sunday leading our 6th grade girls. I was so surprised at how easily they opened up & they were so excited to have us as leaders. We pretty much shadowed our co-leader Alex, but this Sunday she won't be there so we'll be doing everything on our own, I can't wait! We're doing a series with them right now called "entourage", it basically just examines what it means to choose between 'wise' & 'foolish' friends and how to still be friends with people who are doing 'foolish' things~it's funny that the things we are teaching our middle and high schoolers is also stuff that helps me..

~I am LOVING that this little girl is as excited about football season as I am ;-)

~And of course, I am LOVING this sweet boy. We aren't getting to see each other as much as I would like because it's football season and his life is dedicated to UGA football right now ((lots & lots to do before the season officially starts!!)) But he is always texting me & really going out of his way to let me know he appreciates my support :-)

Hope y'all have a great Wednesday :-)

Glory Glory to Ole Georgia!

I'm linking up with Lindsey today for the Show us Your Football Team link up !

~If you know me at all you will know that I am a Georgia girl through and through
I have been going to Georgia games for as long as I can remember...

My family has had season tickets for the last 14 seasons!
Now that I live in Athens I'm an even bigger fan.

Adam works for UGA Athletics in the football department so now even our livelihood depends on the Bulldogs.

If you know anything about SEC football at all you know the two most important things (besides the team!) are tailgating and wearing the perfect outfit!
~You will never see a college girl in a jersey and shorts, we are always sporting our cutest dresses & skirts.
~Even the littlest of fans wear their game day dresses!

"How are the girls in Athens not hot? Have you ever seen a dress, red and black? It's a G**D*** dress code, you wear a skirt thats red and black combination or you wear a dress that's red and black, that's it, period, if you don't....then go you to Florida!"
Ha..my favorite quote about game day apparel ;-)

If you're lucky like me and get to be on the field for some games (thanks Adam!) you might get to meet some pretty cool people~like Charles and Dave from Lady A.. No big deal ;-)

The thing I love the most about Georgia football is spending time with my best friends and family

& it's not just home games that we attend.. oh no, we get on planes and go on road trips to see our dawgies!

Colorado

Auburn
Couldn't imagine a fall without our Dawgs!! Can't wait for September 3rd !
