Christmas 2012

Another Christmas has come and gone and I am left feeling so so thankful for my amazing family. We had so much fun over the break!

Christmas started for Adam and I on Saturday night when we exchanged presents with each other. We always try to carve out some time before all the hustle and bustle begins to have "our" Christmas as we call it. I got Adam some State Traditions and Peach State Pride stuff, Bean Boots and PJ pants and he got me tan Tory Burch Revas : )

On Sunday we went to Christmas Eve Eve service at church and then went to Adam's family Christmas.

Christmas Eve was spent at my parent's house with my mom's family. I got this adorable spoon rest and kitchen towel from Anthropologie [and just for the record, I would really like everything in my kitchen to be from Anthro! haha obsessed!] and Adam got another State Traditions shirt. I also got a black and white chevron rug for under our kitchen table that is being delivered tomorrow.

We spent the rest of the night hanging out and putting together Carolyne-Grace's Santa loot! She racked up!! All she has been asking for for MONTHS is a toolbox. Her Daddy found her the perfect one, and even had her name put on it. She was in heaven! She also got tons of babies, a doll house, & a LeapPad2.

We opened our Christmas PJ's (Christmas Eve tradition!)
Still laughing that Adam and my brother got matching PJ's !!

My mom & I with our matching socks!

Adam and I went to his parents house to see them and exchange presents. They are paying for our honeymoon (HUGE blessing!) and gave us money to buy the ottoman that goes with our sectional. I have definitely hit the in-law jackpot.. they are wonderful!!

After a while we headed to my Memama's house for Christmas with my dad's family. Memama always goes above & beyond.. we are so spoiled! I got some clothes and a new rug for our living room! Adam got a State Traditions belt : )

Loving the way the rug looks... and it will look even better when our ottoman is delivered!!

As much as I love all of the gifts we received I am just so thankful that my Savior was born to die..just for me..just for you..to cover all of our sins. BLESSED! I hope y'all had a great Christmas!

Wedding Wednesday: Save the Dates

I have known for a long time that I wanted to have Christmas save the dates. I looked high and low for the perfect design but just wasn't finding what I wanted. I settled for a generic save the date and almost ordered them. Luckily I told myself to keep looking for the perfect Christmas one because that's what I really wanted. FINALLY I found exactly what I was looking for. Alisa Cox of Alisamariedesigns was AMAZING to work with! I made a HUGE mistake on our save the dates & not only did Alisa re-do them for me at a discounted rate she even had them priority shipped to me so that I would be able to get them out in time for Christmas. *note to all brides: when sending your designer your wedding date double, triple, a million times check that you indeed sent the correct date. I sent the wrong wedding date and didn't notice until our save the dates had been printed and SHIPPED. I was mortified. Luckily Alisa fixed everything and we were able to get them out in time : )

If you follow me on Instagram [jamielb_] you have already seen these but for those who have not here are our save the dates!!! L.O.V.E !!!

What do y'all think?!

Blogger Day of Silence

I am showing my support for the victim's of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting by having a day of silence from blogging.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." [Psalm 34:18]

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest in me." [2 Corinthians 12:9]

Joy and Sadness

This past weekend was one filled with joy & sadness. As a future elementary school teacher who has spent the last two years teaching K, 2, & 5th graders and is about to student teach in 1st grade I was overcome with so much grief for the babies and teachers who lost their lives on Friday at Sandy Hook Elem School. It's just not fair. I applaud the teachers for their heroism and can only hope I act with such grace if I am ever faced with a similar situation. I can't stop watching the news and reading every article..trying to make sense of such senselessness. All I can cling to is that my God is constant and he is near to the brokenhearted.

Our teaching Pastor Andy Stanley was on my favorite Atlanta morning radio show this morning talking about the CT shootings. I love that this radio show--which is not a Christian radio show at all--had him on to talk about this situation. It's definitely worth listening to!

On Thursday Adam and I headed to Mississippi to spend the weekend with my blog BFF (now real life BFF) Nicole & her fiance Tyler.
N + T just bought a house so we were super excited to get to see it and spend the weekend with them!

We got in pretty late Thursday so we immediately got into our PJ's and lounged around together.

Friday we spent the day in Nicole + Tyler's hometown. We went shopping in the square and had lunch at my favorite little spot in Hernando, The Dip. I had it the last time I was visiting Nicole and knew that Adam would love it!

Friday night we stayed in and made dinner : ) Then Nicole and I decided to do a vlog. You can watch it here if you haven't seen it yet ; ) I'm pretty sure I have watched that ending 308 times..and it's still funny to me!

Saturday we enjoyed a huge breakfast prepared by Nicole and then hung out around the house until it was time for Nicole's shower! She got some amazing McCarty pieces and I soooooo wish that stuff was cool in Georgia because I'm obsessed with it now!!!

After the shower we went back to N + T's house and set up all of their new pottery. Everything looked SO perfect!! That night we went to Mexican for dinner! : )
Sunday Adam and I were up bright and early to head back to Georgia. Goodbyes are always the WORST, but luckily we will see them VERY soon at their wedding and then they are coming to Georgia for Easter & back again for our wedding in June! Love having all of these hang outs planned!

We had the WORST drive home. It literally poured down raining the ENTIRE time. Not once was it not raining. And to top it off I need new windshield wipers. It was just ridiculous. It took us FOREVER to get home. But we had wonderful conversations and honestly anytime I'm with Adam it's fun so it was fine!

I am settling back into my "winter break routine"..which includes waking up whenever I want to, slowly getting ready, going into work for a few hours and then spending my nights hanging out with Adam getting our house put together. I wish this was real life!

  *Disclaimer:

2. I move entirely too much
3. I am secretly wearing PJ pants : )
4. I don't think I have much of a future as a vlogger. I suck.
5. Don't make fun of us!

Wedding Wednesday

The worst blogger in the world. That would be me. I have been SO busy these last few weeks that I have had very little time to do anything fun. Now that school is out until January 7th I will have a little more free time : )

Not too much is going on as far as the wedding goes. We are sending out save the dates tomorrow, which I am super excited about! I can't wait for y'all to see them!!

Today for Wedding Wednesday I want to talk about our rehearsal dinner venue.

For the last (almost) four years of mine + Adam's relationship we have loved spending time on Lake Oconee together. That's our favorite thing to do in the summers and we spend most of our weekends there. When our relationship got more serious and we began talking about getting married we always envisioned getting married at the Ritz Carlton, Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee. It was the perfect venue!

Then... Carrie Underwood decided to get married there. & the Ritz decided to DOUBLE their prices for weddings.. so our perfect venue was out of the question. So we decided that we should do our rehearsal dinner at one of our favorite restaurants at the Ritz--Gaby's by the Lake-- since we couldn't get married there : )

Gaby's is the building on the bottom right of this picture

It is the perfect, low-key, outdoor venue for our rehearsal dinner! It is within minutes of our wedding venue and is one of my favorite restaurants ever!

Only 192 days to go!!

Thanksgiving 2012

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I had a lot of school work that I should have done but decided to rest + spend time with family instead : ) So now I am frantically finishing some last minute projects/papers that are due this week and next. I always hate the weeks right after Thanksgiving...

Anyway, here are some pictures from my wonderful week off!

On Wednesday Adam and I had Thanksgiving with his dad's family. We don't get to see them often so it was nice to catch up, share some of our wedding plans, and meet some new babies!

On Thursday we had Thanksgiving with my dad's family : ) Adam's parents joined us which was so great!!

Me and the cutest girl EVER!

 All the Benson girls!

My brother & Carolyne-Grace {Can you say TWINS?!}

Thursday night my mom and I went Black Friday shopping! Toys-R-Us opened at 8pm so we headed there first and got some great things for Caroylne-Grace. My brother didn't want to go everywhere with us so he followed us to Toys-R-Us so he could get some things for CG too but when he saw the line to just get in the store he left; I don't think he knew just how crazy it would be haha!! Anyway.. after Toys-R-Us we headed to Wal-Mart which wasn't as bad as it has been in years past. We ended up leaving with only 2 candles and some mittens for CG...fail...

This was my FAVORITE thing we got CG.. I literally cannot wait to play with it with her haha! I had one similar when I was younger and I always loved setting it up and playing with it!
We finally got home around 2am and were back up at 5am to get to Ashley Furniture. The first 50 people in line received $100 gift cards. We got there around 5:30am and had to wait until 7am for them to open, but we got our gift cards! And we also got this baby...

Adam + I's first big purchase for our house!!
We have been looking at couches + love seats for quite some time but wanted to wait until Black Friday to get a good deal. We had it narrowed down to two different ones and we were going to purchase whichever one was cheaper on BF. But when I walked in and saw this new sectional they had just put on the floor the night before I knew it was "the one". Even though Adam wasn't there to give his opinions I knew he would like it : )

After purchasing our sectional my mom and I headed to Barnes & Noble to snag up some $59 Nooks! I got one and am so excited to start using it. I am a huge reader and have always been against Nooks/Kindles because I prefer actual books, but with it being on sale for $59 I couldn't resist!

We finally headed home in time to get ready and head to our final Thanksgiving lunch with my mom's family. I am blessed with TONS of family, but goodness I am still exhausted!

Saturday we were up bright and early for the UGA vs. GT game. Clean old fashioned HATE as they call it! My mama is a Tech fan, but my daddy, brother & I are die hard UGA fans.. if you haven't noticed ; )

It was freezing but it was such a great game I didn't care!
Our Dawgies are ONE game away from the Nat'l Championship! Holy Crap.
We are headed to Atlanta this weekend for the SEC Championship against Alabama & the winner of that game plays Notre Dame in the Natty!!

I hope your Thanksgiving was as wonderful as mine.
Can't believe Christmas is less than a month away!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so excited to be co-hosting Wedding Wednesday today!!

I feel like we are at a stand still as far as wedding planning goes. We have made all the major decisions, but it isn't time to start messing around with details quite yet! We are getting ready to send our Save the Dates out right after Thanksgiving--I can't wait to share them with y'all!

One thing that I finalized pretty early on was music. For some people this is a really hard decision but I knew exactly what I wanted before we even got engaged! I changed my mind a couple of times on a few songs, but for the most part my vision has stayed the same. We hired the amazing Emily Hearn to sing during our ceremony--probably one of the best things about our wedding, in my opinion!

These are the songs we chose..

Presessional: Til Kingdom Come | Coldplay

Entrance of parents and grandparents: Come Away with me | Norah Jones

Entrance of Bridal party: Somebody Loved | The Weepies

Entrance of the Bride: Heavenly Day | Patty Griffin

Unity candle/Communion/Prayer: You're Beautiful | Phil Wickham
{The same song Nicole is walking down the aisle to!!!}

Recessional: Like Ships Need the Sea | Emily Hearn

First dance: Oh, Tonight | Josh Abbott Band

Father/Daughter Dance: One of us | Dave Barnes

SO excited about our music choices : )
What do y'all think?? Which one is your favorite?

213 days until I become Mrs. L!

How to Be Rich

This week at Athens Church we started our annual series Be Rich, taught by our teaching pastor Andy Stanley. This is by far my favorite series that we do every year.

As I sat in church yesterday and listened to this idea of BEING RICH it really made me think about this blog community. As bloggers we are constantly comparing ourselves to the other blogs we read, the instagram pictures we see, and the twitter accounts that we follow. It's so easy to get wrapped up in having the next best thing so you can blog about it. Now I love a good OOTD post, don't get me wrong, this isn't about not having nice things, there's nothing wrong with that... but there have been so many times that I look at another blogger and think "Wow! She is so RICH." based on the THINGS that she has. But the truth of the matter is we are ALL rich.
We may not be able to afford every Louis Vuitton, David Yurman, and Tory Burch product that we want but we are SO rich compared to the rest of the world. Half the world--nearly 3 million people--live on less than a dollar a day! One trip to Starbucks will cost you the same amount that someone lives off of for an entire week in some third world countries.

As bloggers we have been given a platform, a voice, to share whatever it is we want to share. For me, it's truth. I want others to know that I am a princess of the almighty King and that I am RICH because He has blessed me with more than I could ever need--and you can be rich too.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, "Command those who are rich in this present world to do good, to be rich in good needs, and to be generous and willing to share." This is how we can be rich..to be generous and willing to share.

Jessica, our other co-leader, Alex, and I challenged our 7th grade girls to come up with a way that we can be rich to someone, or a group, in our community or around the world, and I want to challenge you to do the same! One great way to be rich is to visit Nicole's blog and read about her Love Big, Give Big campaign--coming together as bloggers to be rich to others is an AMAZING thing. Another way is to vist www.howtoberich.org and watch the Be Rich series and read about different organizations that our churches are partnering with. Here is a list of all of the strategic partners participating in Be Rich--Maybe there is a North Point strategic partner church in your town that you never knew about!

  1. Access Church Jacksonville, Florida
  2. Anthem Church Gainesville, Florida
  3. Athens Church Athens, Georgia
  4. Beachside Community Church Fort Walton Beach, Florida
  5. Browns Bridge Community Church Cumming, Georgia
  6. Buckhead Church Atlanta, Georgia
  7. Canyons Church Clarkston, Washington
  8. Cumberland Church Franklin, Tennessee
  9. Gwinnett Church Duluth, Georgia
  10. Life Bridge Church Savannah, Georgia
  11. Longleaf Church Warner Robins, Georgia
  12. New Vintage Church Santa Rosa, California
  13. North Point Community Church Alpharetta, Georgia
  14. NorthBridge Community Church Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  15. Red Rock Church Colorado Springs, Colorado
  16. Ridge Church Charlotte, North Carolina
  17. Rock Point Community Church Chattanooga, Tennessee
  18. Southpoint Church Cape Town, South Africa
  19. Southside Church Peachtree City, Georgia
  20. Stone Point Church Tucker, Georgia
  21. Watermarke Church Canton, Georgia
  22. Wiregrass Church Dothan, Alabama
Even if there is not a church in your area I still challenge you to find a way to be rich to someone. It can be someone in you family, in your community, or someone across the world. When we get past this idea of "getting rich" and realize that we are already abundantly blessed and rich beyond belief we can begin to ask God what it is that He wants us to do with our richness.
We give to others because He first gave to us.

"If you love those who love you, what credit is that for you? Even sinners love those who love them.  And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." [Luke 6:34-35]

Taking a Look Back...

This time last year I made the decision to spend my spring break in Nicaragua. As they start making announcements at church for next year's trip I am getting so sad. I want to go back really bad, but financially I just can't send out support letters again then turn around and graduate and then get married.. just not a very nice thing for me to do to people. I know that I will go back someday and I know the Lord will provide the way for me to get there. I have been looking at all of my pictures and wanted to show y'all a few : ) I know I did a couple re-caps back in March when I got back but there were a bunch of pictures I never showed. Enjoy!!

Are the not the most BEAUTIFUL people ever??
If you have never been on a mission trip before I would strongly encourage it.
It was the best week of my entire life. and I miss it BAD!
