How to Be Rich

This week at Athens Church we started our annual series Be Rich, taught by our teaching pastor Andy Stanley. This is by far my favorite series that we do every year.

As I sat in church yesterday and listened to this idea of BEING RICH it really made me think about this blog community. As bloggers we are constantly comparing ourselves to the other blogs we read, the instagram pictures we see, and the twitter accounts that we follow. It's so easy to get wrapped up in having the next best thing so you can blog about it. Now I love a good OOTD post, don't get me wrong, this isn't about not having nice things, there's nothing wrong with that... but there have been so many times that I look at another blogger and think "Wow! She is so RICH." based on the THINGS that she has. But the truth of the matter is we are ALL rich.
We may not be able to afford every Louis Vuitton, David Yurman, and Tory Burch product that we want but we are SO rich compared to the rest of the world. Half the world--nearly 3 million people--live on less than a dollar a day! One trip to Starbucks will cost you the same amount that someone lives off of for an entire week in some third world countries.

As bloggers we have been given a platform, a voice, to share whatever it is we want to share. For me, it's truth. I want others to know that I am a princess of the almighty King and that I am RICH because He has blessed me with more than I could ever need--and you can be rich too.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, "Command those who are rich in this present world to do good, to be rich in good needs, and to be generous and willing to share." This is how we can be rich..to be generous and willing to share.

Jessica, our other co-leader, Alex, and I challenged our 7th grade girls to come up with a way that we can be rich to someone, or a group, in our community or around the world, and I want to challenge you to do the same! One great way to be rich is to visit Nicole's blog and read about her Love Big, Give Big campaign--coming together as bloggers to be rich to others is an AMAZING thing. Another way is to vist www.howtoberich.org and watch the Be Rich series and read about different organizations that our churches are partnering with. Here is a list of all of the strategic partners participating in Be Rich--Maybe there is a North Point strategic partner church in your town that you never knew about!

  1. Access Church Jacksonville, Florida
  2. Anthem Church Gainesville, Florida
  3. Athens Church Athens, Georgia
  4. Beachside Community Church Fort Walton Beach, Florida
  5. Browns Bridge Community Church Cumming, Georgia
  6. Buckhead Church Atlanta, Georgia
  7. Canyons Church Clarkston, Washington
  8. Cumberland Church Franklin, Tennessee
  9. Gwinnett Church Duluth, Georgia
  10. Life Bridge Church Savannah, Georgia
  11. Longleaf Church Warner Robins, Georgia
  12. New Vintage Church Santa Rosa, California
  13. North Point Community Church Alpharetta, Georgia
  14. NorthBridge Community Church Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  15. Red Rock Church Colorado Springs, Colorado
  16. Ridge Church Charlotte, North Carolina
  17. Rock Point Community Church Chattanooga, Tennessee
  18. Southpoint Church Cape Town, South Africa
  19. Southside Church Peachtree City, Georgia
  20. Stone Point Church Tucker, Georgia
  21. Watermarke Church Canton, Georgia
  22. Wiregrass Church Dothan, Alabama
Even if there is not a church in your area I still challenge you to find a way to be rich to someone. It can be someone in you family, in your community, or someone across the world. When we get past this idea of "getting rich" and realize that we are already abundantly blessed and rich beyond belief we can begin to ask God what it is that He wants us to do with our richness.
We give to others because He first gave to us.

"If you love those who love you, what credit is that for you? Even sinners love those who love them.  And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." [Luke 6:34-35]

  3. Great post!!! It is so easy to forget how rich this country is. I read in a book that I read for church that if you make more than 20,000$ per year, you are in the richest 2% of the world!! It is easy to forget that in this society.
