Back to School | Teacher Style

As an Early Childhood major I have had to dress "professionally" a lot over the last four years. It is super important that I always look my best when I'm teaching--after all I am basically on a job interview every day that I am at the elementary school. I've learned that it's best to just stick to the basics and leave my more "fun" clothes for the weekends. Of course, it is always fine to add a pop of color or pattern to your outfit, but you want to remember that your number one priority is to choose an outfit that is functionable. Here are three of my go-to outfits for teaching.

1. This is probably the most typical outfit you will see me in. Not only is it comfortable; it's still professional without being stuffy. I have a bunch of patterned and striped tops from Target and Old Navy that I love pairing with my khakis.

2. There are some days that I just really want to dress up. Skirts aren't always functionable, especially in the younger grades when you are on the floor a lot, but for the upper grades this is great. I wore my Jcrew wool skirts a lot when I was teaching fifth. Of course you can never go wrong with the classic Tory Burch Reva. Mine are really broken in so I don't have a problem wearing them all day.

3. This is definitely my favorite type of outfit to wear. We are not allowed to wear jeans so my way of getting around that is to wear my black Old Navy Rockstar Jeans. Are they jeans? ABSOLUTELY, and they are the most comfortable things you will ever put on your body, BUT add a longer top that covers the zipper and cardigan and it instantly makes it look like you're wearing "nice" pants. Can't tell you how many times I have done this and NEVER get questioned. ((I've also worn other Rock Star colored jeans and no one has said anything about them being jeans!))

I know this may not be of interest to many of y'all, but for those of you who are teachers or are student teaching like me, what are your go-to outfits??

  1. Love these outfits! You've got great style, lady! I might have to recreate them and I'm definitely not a teacher.

  3. I have black Rockstar jeans and I always feel a little more dressy wearing them than when I am in regular denim. Good luck on your first day of school!

  4. Did you know that I don't own a pair of khakis??? I definitely need to get a pair before I start student teaching! I might die if I have to wear legit dress pants everyday! I hope your first day has been GREAT! I love you! PS. I wrote in your wedding date in my Erin Condren today. :)

  6. I love my Old Navy black Rockstar jeans too! I work in an office that is business casual and I do the same thing all the time! Seriously the best thing ever!

  7. I love a good cardigan to help me make my springy tanks school appropriate and last all year long. Nothing says "teacher" like a cardigan!!

  8. Definitely cardigans are essential in a teacher's wardrobe!!

Also, since you like J.Crew, hope you know they give a student discount if you show your ID. And once you're a teacher, Loft, NY&Company, Ann Taylor also give teacher discounts. :)

    Good luck with student teaching!

  10. 'm not a teacher but I do have to dress business casual everyday for work. This term is used loosely but our office has pretty strict guidelines so it's hard to keep it fun and more importantly comfortable! I love the outfit choices you picked! This is pretty much what I wear everyday! Gotta love Target!

  11. Dressing for teaching is the death of me sometimes. I spend forever trying to pick out outfits the night before. Part of the problem is I don't have a pair of khakis. Mostly because I had to wear them everyday for my job in high school so I got sick of them. But I guess I need to fix that!

  12. Thank you for another great article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I am on the look for such information. Telangana Ration Card Download
