J.Crew Finds

Did y'all happen to catch the 50% off J.Crew Factory online sale on Monday?? I ordered a few key pieces that I know I will get a lot of use out of. I have the linen skirt in hot pink and black and wear both of them a lot! & of course a chambray shirt is a closet essential--a girl can never have too many! I also picked up this lime green gingham button-down. I have been obsessed with neon colors this season & can't wait to style this piece!! I could have seriously ordered so much more, but I had to control myself--these three things were expensive enough ; )

get the look: skirt | chambray | button-down

What did y'all get??

Bachelorette Party Video

This past weekend my best friends and I headed to Charleston, South Carolina for my bachelorette party!! I just have to say that I have THE BEST friends in the entire world. They made me feel so special and loved on me so much. There were a few girls who weren't able to make it (Elise + Nicole) and I missed them like crazy!! We had so much fun and were able to do a lot in our three days. We ate great food, enjoyed the night life, spent the day on Folly Beach, & took advantage of the great shopping on King Street. I can't wait to go back to Charleston!

I made a fun little video highlighting our trip (can y'all tell I'm obsessed with making videos??) Hope y'all enjoy!! xO

honor

Happy Memorial Day, y'all! While most of us will be out at the pool/lake/beach with family & friends remember to take the time to remember the very reason we are able to do what we are doing today so freely. Thank you to all who have served & are continuing to serve!

bad traits

I can't believe I have made it all the way to day 23 of the Blog Everyday in May challenge. I have only missed two or three days of the challenge (mainly because I didn't feel like I had anything to say for certain topics) & I am pretty proud that I have hung in there. It has been a lot of fun & I have found some awesome blogs that I wouldn't have otherwise found!

As I've gotten older I've come to realize there are certain things about me that are just not good character traits to have..

1) I am a conflict avoider. At first, most would say that isn't a bad trait. Some may even say it's a good trait, and at times it can be. But for the most part I feel like this isn't a trait I want to possess. I don't necessarily want to go around looking for conflicts, but I wish I was able to stand up for myself more and speak my mind when necessary. I am definitely a push over and sometimes let people take advantage of me. Not cool.

2) I am lazy. Not in an irresponsible way, but in the sense that I could lay in my bed all day and do absolutely nothing and be perfectly okay with it. I really enjoy wearing comfy clothes and lounging. Sometimes this turns into a bad thing when I have stuff I know I should be doing but I am just too lazy to do it. {like right now at 10:45 pm the night before I leave for my bachelorette trip and I haven't packed a single thing.... whooooops}

3) I am shy. I really dislike this about myself. I wish I was one of those people who could just walk up to anyone and ask for directions, ask for them to take a group picture, etc. A lot of people don't believe me when I tell them how shy I am because I am pretty outgoing when I am with my friends, but put me in a new and unfamiliar situation and I clam up. If there was one thing I could change about myself it would be this.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little bit better today ; )

What's in my beach bag video!

Happy Friday, y'all!! As you read this I am hitting the road with my best friends and heading to Charleston, South Carolina for my bachelorette party weekend! I am so excited to get to spend the weekend in a beautiful city with my amazing friends celebrating my upcoming wedding. I have the greatest friends and I just know they are going to make this weekend amazing for me : )

While I am in Charleston I thought I'd leave y'all with a little "what's in my beach bag video?"

Enjoy!!

be you

Although I learned a lot in school, many of life's greatest lessons are not learned between four concrete walls. Most of the time we learn things by living. by doing. by figuring things out. For me college was a time of becoming the person I knew I wanted to be. I learned to take the road less traveled. I learned who I was. and more importantly learned to love the person I was. I learned that it's okay to be different. It's okay to go your own way. Learning to not care what other people think about me was a game changer. For so long I did things to please other people. When I learned to do things for me-because I loved them-it totally changed my outlook on life. It seems simple, but for someone who doesn't like the person they are it's hard. I learned to take chances even though I wasn't sure what would happen. I learned to trust God and know that His plans for me are already written {Jeremiah 29:11}.

The main thing that school couldn't teach me...

Be you, & be okay with it.

one month

in one month i will walk down the aisle to my forever. i will become a mrs. i will be someone's wife. and i cannot wait. the amount of preparation that has gone into planning not only this wedding, but this marriage, assures me that i am ready. over the next month as we finalize details i will be finalizing my time as an engaged girl and preparing my heart to become a wife. i cant believe it is so close.

there are so many things that have happened during this engagement in my personal life that could have caused me to loose focus and forget what is important. thankfully the lord has been faithful, and despite all the craziness around me, i have kept my eyes on jesus and relied on him to help me become the best wife i can possibly be.

i am excited to see what this last month as an engaged couple holds for adam and i as we begin to move in together and start our lives as one.

it has been so much fun to share this journey with y'all and i cant wait to share more!!

struggling.

If you know me in real life then you know that I don't really do anything the easy way. I am one of those people who always has a million things going on, is busy 24/7, & has a jam packed schedule everyday. There are very few days where I have time to do absolutely nothing. Even though I am used to having a full plate I feel like over the last few weeks I have been MAJORLY struggling. struggling to keep up. struggling to get everything done. struggling to focus on all that's in front of me. I am so so grateful for all of the blessings in my life right now, but if I'm being honest I am struggling with the fact that I have so much going on. I feel like I'm not able to give 100% to ANYTHING and that bothers me. I don't want my wedding day to get here and I haven't been able to finish everything that I want to finish. I don't want my home to get put to the side and be undecorated. I don't want the school year to get here and be unprepared. I have had to learn to say "no" to a lot of things lately, take days off work to accomplish wedding stuff, take days to go shopping with friends just because I need a break to stay sane & be disciplined to get it all done instead of going to the pool & laying out like I really wish I could do everyday. I don't want it to sound like I am ungrateful for everything going on, because I am sooooo thankful but it's just a lot.

Those 8 days in St. Lucia for our honeymoon are sounding real nice right about now ; )

33 days!

Graduation

This past Friday I graduated from college! I am so happy to be done with school and move on to the next chapter of my life. My college experience was the exact opposite of how I imagined it would be (no one ever thinks it will take them 5 years and that they will transfer to a school an hour away from where they live...) but I do not regret anything! I am proud of the choices I made and am really glad I listened to my heart and transferred to a smaller school, even if everyone told me not to! Obviously it worked out for me because I was offered and accepted a teaching position before I even graduated : ) I think the thing I learned the most in college is that you have to do what is right for you, even if everyone else is doing something different! I am finally at a place in my life where I am comfortable being ME and I don't let other's opinions of me dictate my life. It's a real good feeling considering I had the lowest self-confidence in the entire world when I entered college.

Favorite Blogs

Today's topic for the Blog Everyday in May Challenge is my top 5 favorite blogs and why I love them. Okay, so this is probably the hardest topic so far.. I mean how the heck am I supposed to pick just 5?!

I guess I will try.

In no particular order, here are my top 5 blogs!

(1) Nicole at Bloom
Nicole is one of my best friends! Besides the fact that we are BFF I love her blog because what you see is what you get. If you know N in real life then you know that the way she is on her blog is exactly how she is in person. Unfortunately, that's not really the case with every blogger so I appreciate her honesty and transparency!

(2) Emily at Life with Emily
I have been following Emily's blog for a while now and I am so excited that are getting to finally meet in real life in just 2 short weeks!!! I love Emily's blog because she has great style and all of her posts are relevant to me and the things that I like : )

(3) Bre at Basically Bre
I have also been following Bre's blog for a while and will also get to meet her in 2 weeks!! I am going up to North Carolina to spend the weekend with her and Emily & cannot wait!!! I love Bre's blog because, just like Emily, everything she blogs about is exactly what I want to read. I know we are going to have the best time with each other because we have so much in common!

(4) Allison at Amarixe
Not only is Allison a blogger but she is also a YouTube beauty guru which is how I found out about her blog. I watch a lot of YouTube channels and her's is definitely one of my favorites. Check her out if you like shopping/makeup hauls, nail/makeup tutorials, and monthly favorites videos!

(5)
Kelly at Kelly's Korner
This might be weird but I really LOVE mom blogs. I just love seeing their little families & it just makes me sooooo excited for my future. I love Kelly's blog because for one she really really loves Jesus. and that is obviously awesome. but I also love that she has such a sweet heart for singles and college age students. A lot of what she blogs about really hits home for me and I appreciate her encouragement!

I absolutely LOVE blogging & it has become a HUGE part of my life. I love connecting with my followers through Instagram/Twitter & e-mails. These are just a FEW of my favorites--y'all are the best & I love you all!!!

beautiful things

Day 17 of the Blog Everyday in May Challenge is a favorite picture of yourself and why.

This picture was taken last year when I was in Nicaragua. When this picture was taken we had just arrived in Granada and were walking around the bario we were staying in. I remember just walking around and taking it all in. It was so different than anything I had ever seen. So much worse than I ever imagined. Yet I saw God's beauty EVERYWHERE. It's funny how places of absolute poverty reveal God's love to me the most. It was in that moment that I had a new outlook on life. I love that place.

"You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of the dust..."

Bridal Portraits Sneak Peek

Last Friday afternoon I had my hair trial, did my makeup, slipped on my wedding dress, put my veil in my hair and headed out the door. My family & I, along with my maid of honor, Jessica, met my photographer in a field of wildflowers for my bridal portraits. I had so much fun getting to tromp around in my wedding dress while cars drove by honking ; )

Here is a little sneak peek--I really wish I could show all of them to y'all!

A day in the life...

Today's topic for the Blog Everyday in May Challenge is a "day in the life". Since I am done with school (graduation on Friday!!) my days are some what unpredictable. I started back working for my dad, but I have also been going back to the elementary school a lot. So I may do another one of these in the fall once I'm back in my teaching routine : )

Anyway, here is what my day looked like yesterday.

I woke up at 6:30 and snoozed about 6 times. Some mornings I hop right out of bed and start my day.. other days I feel like I'm in a coma and refuse to acknowledge that I have somewhere to be. I used to use the app that monitored your sleep and woke you up when you were in the best sleep to be woken up but for some reason it creeped me out that it monitored my sleep so I quit using it. I don't even know if it really worked haha

Anyway, after I wake up I spend a few minutes reading Jesus Calling and journaling. I'll be honest, this doesn't happen every.single.day, but I'd say 80% of the time it does. I really like doing my quiet times at night more than in the morning, but I really think starting my day off in this calm way sets me up for a great day.

After I am done with that I feed Lexie and hop in the shower. My hair is super thick and starting to get long again so after my shower I wait for it to air dry a little. While it's drying I hop on the computer and check out my blog feed. I started using Bloglovin a month or so ago and I really like it. I will also watch beauty guru YouTube videos if I have time ; )

After that I usually have to clean up the huge mess Lexie has made from her food. She is a crazy eater. I have no idea why she does this and have tried everything to fix the issue..

Finally, I dry my hair which takes about 15 minutes, and then straighten it which takes about 10. After that I spend about 10 minutes doing my makeup.

During the school year I pick my clothes out the night before, but since I'm not teaching again until the fall I pick out whatever I'm going to wear that morning. (& sometimes take an #ootd pic if it's IG worthy and if I have time.. today that was not the case)

I did take a #notd pic though ; )

On this particular day I went to the elementary school for my firsties end of the year party. It takes me about 45 minutes to get to the school from my house.

Their party was 9:00-11:30 so I hung out with the kids and the teachers and then headed to the mall since it is right by my school. I was looking for new sunglasses and a dress for graduation--found neither.

I headed home and took a really long, much needed, nap!

I finally got up around 5:00 and went to meet my sister-in-law to pick up my niece for swim practice.

I of course had to take her picture before she started ; ) She is doing SO good. Most of the little girls in her class cry the entire time, but her and another girl don't cry at all and are doing really well! Such a proud aunt!! (How cute is her bikini ; ) I wish I would have taken a picture of the back of her hair--she had a french braid, it was precious!)

After swim we ran home and I changed Carolyne-Grace into some new clothes and fixed her hair. We jumped back in the car and headed to Adam's house. We picked him and his roommate Thomas up and headed to meet some more friends at dinner. I absolutely LOVE taking CG places with me. I want a baby so bad and this definitely holds me over until the time is right ; )

After I got back home I cleaned up and hopped in bed. My favorite thing to do before bed is light a candle and journal. It helps to calm me and helps me reflect on my day. I am really working on finding purpose even in the most ordinary days and this is a great way for me to look back and think about my day. After that I laid in bed and watched Don't be Tardy (guilty pleasure..) and fell asleep : )

Not that exciting of a day ; )

What is your typical day like??

Top 5 Tuesday!

I am so glad Rachel over at Just Peachy brought Top 5 Tuesday back!! Today's topic is top 5 candles. If there is one thing in this world I will splurge on it's totally candles. I.LOVE.CANDLES!! I pretty much have one burning at all times.

Here are my top 5 favorites of all time!

(1)

Slatkin & Co. Leaves via Bath and Body Works
This is hands down my favorite candle by far!! I really wish this was sold year round. But you better believe the second it is stocked in the fall I am hittin up that 2 for $20 sale and buying 6 of these guys!! It is the perfect smell. I don't even know how to describe it's goodness... you just have to smell it for yourself. Mmmmm!!

(2)

Tyler Candle Company Icon
This candle is referred to as the "boy candle" in our house. My whole family is obsessed with it and my mom always has one burning. It literally smells like the best smelling boy in the entire world.

(3)

Village Candle Cinnamon French Toast via Homegoods

I am a huge fan of "bakery" scented candles and this one is the perfect scent!! I have been burning this one pretty much everyday since Christmas and it is still only half way gone.. I'd say that it is well worth the money!!

(4)

Slatkin and Co. Pink Sangria via Bath and Body Works
This is my favorite summer time candle!! It smells just like pink lemonade : ) So yummy!!

(5)
Limoncello via Bath and Body Works
This is a new favorite for me! Adam LOVES anything lemon scent. Literally every kitchen supply that has a lemon scent option he has it. So I picked this candle up and thought he would really like it, turns out I did too!! To me it's one of those candles that smells much better when it's burning than it does at the store.

There are so many more candles that I love (Capri Blue Volcano at Anthropologie, anyone?!) but since I was limited to 5 I tried to pick some that you may not be as familiar with!

If you like Bath and Body Works candles be sure to sign up for the e-mails because they do 2 for $20 candles ALL the time. I don't think I've ever paid full price for a candle (maybe Leaves if I was really desperate haha!)

What are your favorite candles? I would love to try some new ones!!

missin my mississippi girl

The best thing, in my opinion, about blogging are all the friendships I have made with girls all over the country. There are people I talk to everyday that I have never met in real life. The hardest part about blogging friendships is that for the most part I don't get to "do life" with any of them.

Most of y'all know that Nicole and I met through blogging back in 2010 and became fast friends. I wish so badly that we could live near each other. I miss her everyday! We do a good job of keeping up with each other via social media/texts/phone calls, but it would be really nice to be able to go to dinner, go shopping, sit on the couch and chat, etc. whenever we felt like it.

I have always had this feeling that somehow N & I would end up living in the same town, and I really hope that happens someday!!

precious

Happy Saturday, friends!! I'm up early getting ready for a couple's shower today for Adam & I. We're hoping the rain holds off long enough for us to enjoy some time by the pool with our friends : )

Day 11 of the Blog Everyday in May Challenge is selling yourself in 10 words. I thought it would be more fun to have Adam describe me in 10 words (but he only sent me 7, I guess he couldn't think of anything else? ha!!) Here is what he said...

1) Loving
2) Sassy
3) Weird
4) Precious
5) Delightful
6) Creative
7) Attractive

The fact that he said I was precious is precious ; ) Love that sweet man! Only 42 days until I can call him my husband!!

out of the mouth of babes

When I first saw the list for the Blog Everyday in May challenge I was having serious trouble thinking of my most embarrassing moment. Thankfully, Carolyne-Grace took care of that for me yesterday when we were at Target.

We had to run into Target before swim lessons because I wanted to get her a new bathing suit. As we were walking in CG screams "EWWW MayMay that man smells like cigarettes!!!" and POINTS at a man no less than three feet from us. Instant embarrassment.

We had a nice little chat about how we keep comments like that to ourselves or wait until no one is around ; ) I know there are many more of these "moments" to come when I have my own kids, but at the time I was SO embarrassed!!

moment in my day

No doubt that my morning time with Jesus is my favorite part of my day. Right now I am studying what the Bible has to say about money & let me just tell you.. it is super convicting. I would love to talk more about it at some point if any of y'all would be interested. I have learned a lot about how God wants us to manage our money.

I love the sweet, simple moments of life.

stop and smell the roses

If there's one thing I've learned in the last year it's that life happens fast. Life doesn't stop for anyone. It's so easy to get caught up in planning for the future that we forget to stop and enjoy today! I have tried my very best throughout our engagement to genuinely enjoy every part of it and not wish it away. I will never get these days back. Obviously I'm excited to marry Adam and become his wife, but I don't want to look back on my time as an engaged girl and regret that I wished it away. Stop and smell the roses--enjoy EVERY season of your life. Even if it's a hard season, find joy in the ordinary things. I promise you will be a lot happier and not as worried about the future if you just focus on what's right in front of you.

phobias

I am such a scardy cat. When I was growing up I was given the nickname "Safety Sandy" & I have stayed true to that name ever since. I have so many phobias it's not even funny. Here are just a few...

1) Agoraphobia: The fear of situations in which escape is difficult. Mine isn't so much large crowds but more being trapped under or in something and not being able to get out. I have serious panic attacks just THINKING about situations like that.

2) Ailurophobia: The fear of cats. Y'all I am serious.. I am sooooo scared of cats. The other night I was babysitting and had no idea the family had a cat until I put the four kids to bed and was sitting on the couch. I look up and not only is there a cat staring at me.. but the cat appeared to be VERY pregnant. Cue instant panic.

3) Dentophobia: The fear of the dentist. I hate to admit it, but I can't even remember the last time I went to the dentist, probably early college. I know I need to go.. and I really am going to go soon. But the thought of people in my mouth touching my teeth just makes me freak out!!

4) Traumatophobia: The fear of injury. This goes back to the whole "Safety Sandy" thing. I pretty much avoid all situations that could cause injury. Except that I was a cheerleader and played multiple other sports my entire life, but while playing I pretty much played it as safe as possible! I think this whole thing really stems from the fact that my cousin accidentally hit me with an aluminum bat at the Braves game when we were 8. They have these games that you can play and I was leaned up against the fence watching him play and he accidentally let go of the bat and it hit me through the fence. I had to be rushed to the emergency room via ambulance. I had plastic surgery and couldn't see out of my eye for a long time--very scary. I still have random moments where I will flash back to the situation and literally have a panic attack over it.

I know some of those are really silly, but these are definitely the things I am most afraid of in life.

Are you afraid of any of these things too??
