Being a Godly Wife

Last week as I was waiting for Adam to get home I was browsing wedding stuff on Pinterest (obvs..) & came across this GREAT blog post on being a Godly wife. The information wasn't exactly new to me, I've been learning these truths for a long time, but the way it was presented just stuck with me. I read it several times! Building off of what was said in the blog post I found some bible verses that really solidify that these are God given truths and the way He designed us to be as wives and how he designed marriage to be in general. You don't have to be married, or even engaged, to start putting these principles into practice!

Check out the blog post here.

Now that you've read the post here are some bible verses that go along with each principle : ) Applying bible verses to each truth really helped me to see that this is EXACTLY how God intended for things to be in marriage.

1. Keep God first, your husband second.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." {Matthew 6:33}

2. Understand the covenant.
"So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." {Matthew 19:6}

3. Submit.
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and himself its savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so should wives submit in everything to their husbands." {Ephesians 5: 22-33}

4. Speak edifying words only.
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." {Ephesians 4:29}

5. Manage the home like a Proverbs 31 wife.
All of Proverbs 31 ; )

6. Do it anyway.
"Do nothing in rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." {Philippians 2:3}

7. Communicate.
"A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."

8. Remember the 80/20 principle.
"Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; write them on the tablet of your heart." {Proverbs 3:3}

9. Strive to please him.
"She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life." {Proverbs 31:12}

10. Cover him in prayer.
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." {Genesis 2:24}

  6. Thank you for sharing! While I'm not married, or even engaged {yet!} I think it's still important for women to learn these principles early on and incorporate them into our dating lives. This was very much needed!

    Enjoy this last week before your wedding!
