teacher talk: a link-up!

Yesterday was a day that I have looked forward to for SO long. Yesterday I got to meet MY students. Yesterday I introduced myself to parents as THE TEACHER (& half of them looked at me like I was kidding because I look so young ha!). Words cannot even describe how I feel. One second I feel so confident in myself and my teaching abilities, the next I am consumed with fear and doubt. I know that I am meant to do this, but it's scary, y'all! As scary as it is though, I cannot wait to greet my 30 (yes, THIRTY) new third grade friends everyday!!

With the beginning of the school year upon us Nicole + I have spent a lot of time talking about teaching. We started throwing around the idea of doing some sort of "teacher link-up" but couldn't quite figure out what we wanted to do. One day when I was driving home from a long day in my classroom it dawned on me that so many other teachers were doing the same thing as me and feeling the same emotions I was feeling. I thought about how nice it was to have so many friends who are teachers. I also thought about the fact that there are a lot of teachers in the blog world. Then the idea of linking up different teachers came to me.

"Teacher Talk" will be a link-up hosted by Nicole and myself the last Tuesday of every month and you'll get a chance to link-up and chat with us about whatever our topic may be! The main idea that we'll center around is encouragement. We want this to be 110% encouraging to K-12 teachers. This is a place for us to share ideas, struggles, and hopes while knowing that our fellow educators will encourage us and cheer us on. This isn't about who has the cutest room, best teacher outfit, or most successful management plan. This is about teachers sharing their hearts and classrooms and finding grace and encouragement there.

With all of that said, the first thing we want to do is offer a pair-up system! We want to get you connected with someone who teaches the same grade (or close to it!) or same subject that you teach. You'll be able to meet your partner, find out more about her, and chat about teaching! You'll be encouraged to send supportive notes through e-mail, twitter, snail mail...whatever. You'll also be sending one "care package" to your partner to show a little love and support. We know that the beginning of the school year can be all sorts of crazy, but we truly believe that when you connect yourself with someone in a similar situation you are better able to handle all that's on your plate. We think this will be a great opportunity to meet someone new and show a little love as we get this new year kicked off!

Here is a list of the topics we will be covering over the next several months:

(1) Tell us about yourself. What you teach, why you teach, where you live. (August 26th)
(2) Teacher outfits (September 24th)
(3) Introduce your partner and share your care packages. (October 29th)
(4) Classroom tour (November 26th)

How does that sound, y'all? I hope that all of our teacher friends are as excited about this as we are! I think it will be such a blessing to us as we get through the first semester of the 2013-2014 school year!

If you are interested in being a part of the partner system, simply head over to Nicole's blog to fill out the form and we will work on getting you paired up! We'll leave the form open until August 16th so spread the love! Pin the button on Pinterest, share it on your blog, post it on Instagram...whatever! Invite all your teacher friends to join and let's start this year off right!!

We also want to encourage any of y'all who may be in education programs in college. We would love to be able to connect y'all with others who are student teaching as well! : )

  3. Jamie, this is seriously awesome. When I started teaching at the beginning of this year (our CR school year started in Feb) I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't even bare to look at all of those beautiful teaching blogs out there. It just stressed me out even more!!! Thanks so much for taking a different spin on this. You rock. I can't wait to hear more about yours & Jess' classrooms! I wish I could be there to share all of this excitement with you- I know that you both will be incredible teachers.

    Love-
    Lauren {how beautiful are the feet}

    P.s. I am STILL open y'all's letters when I have a bad day (obviously I save them for REALLY bad ones)!

  7. This is great! I'm entering my 4th year of teaching and still deal with the emotions you're blogging about. I love the idea of linking up; I've wanted to be a teacher since 3rd grade but sometimes, I still need encouragement. Hope your first day went well!
