Awaken the Nation

Saturday was one for the record books, y'all! We started our tailgate bright and early and enjoyed a day with family and friends. The anticipation for the game was KILLING me so I was a happy girl when it was finally time to walk to Sanford.

The passion and excitement that was in that stadium was unlike anything I have ever experienced (and that says a lot considering how many games I've been to!) The game was one of the best I have ever seen. Both teams played their hearts out and it could have easily gone either way. Thankfully we pulled out a W and it was oh so sweet!!

And at the heart of this team is a man that I admire SO much. I am extremely thankful that my husband gets to work under such a top-notch leader. It doesn't matter if you are an Alabama fan, a Tennessee fan, an LSU fan, or not even a fan of football.. you are fan of Mark Richt because he is such a class act. His devotion to this team and this community is unbelievable. I am so blessed to be a part of the Bulldawg Nation!!

Go Dawgs!!

Five on Friday

TGIF, y'all! We've made it through another week! This week was one for the record books for me. I had parent/teacher conferences everyday before/after school. I had a 7:00am conference every morning except Thursday and stayed until 5 or 6 everyday. Needless to say I am one tired teacher!!

I'm linking up for Five on Friday!

1) THIS video. Oh my gosh. I just can't even explain the obsession that this city has with football. It's a magical thing. & since my hubs works for the team it really is our passion. I love everything about football season. And this video is genius.

2) Last week I was being a whiny baby (WHO ME?!) about not having "any clothes" so Adam said "I'll go get you some after church" I laughed because clearly he was joking. Well..turns out he wasn't. That sweet boy went shopping after church while I was at a wedding shower and bought me a bunch of outfits. He did pretty good, too! I had to take a few things back but overall I loved everything he got me! (plus with the stuff I returned I was able to get even more!) What a sweet hubby!! Best part of the story.. when he was shopping he told all the ladies working that he had a bet with his wife because he didn't want them to think he was weird for shopping in the girls section ha!! ; )

3) Ever since school started I have been having a really hard time finding a good balance between work and home life. For the first few weeks I was all about work and I really neglected the house, my husband, and my friends and family. Then when I realized I was doing that I started leaving at 3:15 everyday and not getting done the things that needed to be done at school. So now I am trying to get back on track and find a healthy balance between the two. Obviously my husband and family are my number one priorities, but work is important too and I want to give 100% when I am there. It's a tough adjustment, but I just keep telling myself "it won't be like this for long." Eventually I will get a job teaching closer to home, I will have a routine, and I will know how to teach effectively. All in due time I suppose.

4) In an effort to slow down and try to really enjoy life I took a bubble bath last night, lit my favorite candle, turned on the Ben Rector Spotify station, and read a few pages of my new book. It was a great way to unwind from the day and spend sometime pampering myself. I loved every single second of it and plan to make it a permanent part of my night time routine.

5) Our house is really starting to come together. Adam is on a kick right now of finding something for somewhere in our house that is super original. It's hilarious. He is always coming up with some crazy, unrealistic idea. I really love that he wants this to be a place where people want to be. We both love to host people and serve in our home. I am excited about all the progress we have made and all the plans we have for future purchases. Right now we have two black and white wedding picture canvases being made to hang above our couch. Once those are delivered I will probably do an updated "in progress house tour" : )

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We have tons of family coming in town for the big game this weekend : )

What I'm Loving...

I haven't done a What I'm Loving Wednesday post in a while so here we go!

I have absolutely been loving this nail polish for fall...
[via]

I have also really been loving all my new fall candles from Bath and Body Works. The bottom two are are two of my favorites that I have purchased so far this season. I'm not a huge fan of Harvest Coffee when it is lit. To me it smells much better when it's just sitting out.

I am in LOVE with our monogrammed mailbox. I am glad I went with gold, I think it goes perfectly with our house. What do y'all think?!

and finally I am loving that Adam and I have been married for THREE months (the 22nd). Being married is SO MUCH FUN!!

What are y'all currently loving?!

Teacher Talk

Well.. I'll just go ahead and say it.. I forgot to post for my own link-up. (#worstbloggerever) Honestly I have no other excuse other than the fact that I am currently in the busiest season of my entire life. I don't think I have ever felt so spread thin. It's an uncomfortable and unwanted feeling. I just keep reminding myself that it won't be like this for long. I will make it through my first year teaching and I will eventually find a balance between work and life. I have been trying really hard this week to just slow down, to say no to things, and to be more present at home. It's been hard to leave work at work. But I will get there.. I hope.

Today's topic for Teacher Talk is teacher outfits! I am fortunate to work at a school that has a fairly lenient dress code. We can't wear jeans everyday like Nicole, but I can get away with my colored skinnies and of course we get to wear jeans on Fridays : ) For the most part my school wardrobe consists of colored skinny jeans and flowy tops or skinny cords and chambray tops or button ups (yes, I call them button ups, not button downs.. always have, and I have no idea why since everyone else seems to call them button downs haha) I had some outfits planned to take pictures in for this post but since I 100% forgot about it I don't have them (seriously..I suck) Maybe I will get a chance to upload them soon : )

If you want to see the occasional school #ootd post be sure to follow me on Instagram! (@jamielb_)

...and that's a wrap for the worst post of all time on Southern Simplicity. Good night ; )

Happy Birthday, Nicole!

I just wanted to pop in real quick and wish my blog bff turned real life bff, Nicole, a very happy 23rd birthday!! When I was finding pictures to put in this video I thought dang we sure have a lot of pictures together (this isn't all of them) for only meeting in real life less than 10 times ; ) (#bloggerprobs) I also thought about how freaking blessed I am to have this girl in my life. It literally blows.my.mind that we MET ON THE INTERNET.. like what?! That's not real life. No one ever thinks they will meet a best friend on the internet, but I sure did. I just wanted to make a little video celebrating this special girl and our unique and wonderful friendship!!

Nicole, I hope you have a great birthday. I so wish I could be there to celebrate with you. I miss you and can't wait to see you really soon!!

I'm Back + Weekend Recap!

After a week long break from blogging I am back! In the process of our move somehow my computer charger was misplaced (pretty sure it got thrown away..ahh!) I wanted to wait a few days to see if it turned up before I forked over $80 for a new one. Luckily I had a charger for my old MacBook and was able to buy a $10 adaptor to make it work for my MacBook Air! Not having my computer for a whole week was HARD so I was happy to be able to turn it on today for the first time in 6 days!

We spent the majority of the week moving and getting settled into our new home. I am happy to say we have made great progress so far! I already feel 100% better in this house then I ever did in our old house..it is really OUR home : )

I will probably do another house tour in the next few weeks to show y'all how everything looks now that there is stuff in the house.

This past weekend was full of LOVE! On Saturday Adam's college roommate, Thomas, proposed to his girlfriend Kelly! Adam helped Thomas get everything prepared and we were able to be there when he proposed. Thomas and Kelly were the ones to take pictures when Adam and I got engaged so it was fun to be able to do it for them this time around!

Thomas made the sweetest slideshow and had it played on the big screen after the proposal!

Later that night Adam and I went to Atlanta for my good friend Alexa's wedding. This was our first wedding as a married couple : ) We loved getting to spend the evening with each other and some of our best friends, Katie and Trey!

We had way too much fun in the photo booth!

Today (Sunday) we have been busy doing laundry + shopping for house stuff.

Oh and THIS happened.......... I know, I can't believe it either.

My students talked me into keeping her.....sooo I'm giving it a shot. This is literally the first cat I have touched/held in at least 10 years. We shall see how this goes..

I have a busy week ahead with my students having standardized testing Monday-Wednesday and preparing for conferences next week, but I hope to get a few posts in this week : )

Hope y'all had a great weekend!!

Our new home {a video!}

We closed on our first home Monday and immediately headed there to unload a few things! I made a little video tour of our new home before any of our furniture or decorations arrived. Today was our big moving day : ) We are so happy to finally be in our first home and can't wait to make it ours!

If you know me at all you know I can't stand cats. The funny thing is though they always find their way to me.. no matter where I go there is always a cat lingering around. So it was only fitting that our new home came with a cat.. his name is Pickles and he is going to be finding a new home immediately. He already came inside a few times and I had to chase him out. I am going to be nice and let him stay a few days but I really just can't handle having a cat on my porch everyday. Plus our dogs are not happy either!! I just think it's hysterical that out of all people in the world I would end up with a cat at my new house who won't go away.

Bachelorette Weekend!

This past weekend I headed to Atlanta for one of my really good friend's bachelorette party! Alexa + I first met in high school when we both worked at Texas Roadhouse. We quickly became friends and have had a wonderful friendship ever since.

We had the best time staying at the Renaissance Hotel in Midtown, having a wonderful dinner at Shout, and dancing the night away at various bars.

One of the best parts of the weekend was meeting a blog reader who is in Alexa's wedding. It tickles me to death that people read this blog..it is always so much fun to meet readers in real life! Rachel was so sweet and I really enjoyed hanging out with her this weekend!

I am so excited for Alexa and Russ' wedding this weekend in Atlanta!

ISFJ

Good afternoon, y'all! I'm coming at you with post #2 of the day ; ) Today for Blogtember is all about personalities! I have taken the Jung personality test a number of times over the years, but I thought it would be fun to take it again to see if it had changed. Funny enough, it changed slightly. For so long I was an INFJ but now my results came back as ISFJ but only slightly on the so I guess I am just somewhere in between an INFJ and ISFJ ; )

"ISFJ's are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." In extreme cases, this need is so strong that standard give-and-take relationships are deeply unsatisfying to them; however, most ISFJ's find more than enough with which to occupy themselves within the framework of a normal life. (Since ISFJ's, like all SJ's, are very much bound by the prevailing social conventions, their form of "service" is likely to exclude any elements of moral or political controversy; they specialize in the local, the personal, and the practice.)"

"While their work ethic is high on the ISFJ priority list, their families are the centers of their lives. ISFJ's are extremely warm and demonstrative within the family circle--and often possessive of their loved ones, as well. When these include E's who want to socialize with the rest of the world, or self-contained ITs', the ISFJ must learn to adjust to these behaviors and not interpret them as rejection. Being SJ's, they play a strong emphasis on conventional behavior"

Surprisingly enough, the top career fields for ISFJ's are social work, religious education, education, and counseling. This is pretty spot on for me. I was a social work major in college before switching to education and becoming a teacher, I lead a small group at church, and I really enjoy all aspects of counseling.

I love reading about my personality and why I do things the way I do them. It's really good to be self-aware and to also be aware of the way others live. I have had my whole family take this quiz and read about themselves ; )

I hope y'all enjoyed getting to know me a little better today.

What is your personality type??

Home Sweet Home

Happy Monday, y'all! Usually I am not a big fan of Monday's..but today is a special day for Adam and I. Today we close on our first home together! Even though we have been living together for the past 2 1/2 months that we've been married, we have been living in Adam's townhouse that he shared with 4 other guys throughout college/post-college. I am so thankful for having such a nice place to live our first few months of marriage, but if I'm being honest.. I didn't like it one bit (and I let Adam know that very often..oops!) I tried my hardest to make it my home.. but it just wasn't happening. I couldn't shake the fact that it never felt like "our" home since AKL lived their for 3 years before we got married. To me, it was always "Adam's house." I am so so thankful for the way everything played out and that we are able to make this next huge step and that I will FINALLY have a place that will truly feel like ours. We close at 4:00 p.m. and then the house is all ours! I can't wait to do tons of house posts real soon! Leave a comment with some things you'd like to see (decorating posts, house tour, organization, etc.) I also just wanted to say thank you SO much for sharing in our excitement and being so supportive. I seriously have the best readers. Y'all brighten my days with your sweet e-mails and comments on Instagram : )

A while back I saw this quote on Pinterest. When we first went and saw this house I immediately thought about it. It has quickly become a favorite quote of mine and I can't wait to show y'all how I will be incorporating it into our little house : )

"love grows best in little houses, with fewer walls to separate. where you eat and sleep so close together, you can't help but communicate. and if we had more room between us, think of all we'd miss. love grows best in houses just like this."

Until next time...

Five on Friday

TGIF, y'all! I am so happy to see another work week come to an end. It is absolutely exhausting teaching little ones all day so I am thankful for two days off.

I'm linking up for Five on Friday today!

(1) I got my new camera yesterday and I am already in love! I switched from the Nikon D3000 to the Canon Rebel T3i. The main reason I got a new camera is because I wanted to be able to take video. I want babies in the near future and I wanted a camera that would be able to capture video of them. I can't wait to play around with it this weekend!

(2) Tomorrow night I am going to a bachelorette party in Atlanta. I hate to be missing a Georgia game, but I am really looking forward to a fun night out celebrating a great friend!! Plus one of my college roomies is going to be there with me so it's always fun to get to spend time with her.

(3) Sunday will be spent packing, packing, packing and getting ready for our big move on Monday!! We have not packed a single thing. Thankfully (or not so thankfully since we will be paying a mortgage and rent..) we don't have to be out of our townhouse until December so we have a lot of time to get things moved. We don't plan on waiting that long though.. we want everything to be moved by Friday but we'll see how that goes!

(4) Speaking of our big move.. we have our final walk through this afternoon. I am excited to get in one last time before it's officially ours. I've been looking at the pictures from the online listing everyday dreaming of how I will decorate everything :)

(5) I have officially switched to fall nail colors! I am loving Essie's Wrapped in Rubies. I have been looking for OPI's new Fall collection because I wanted to get I Knead Sour-Dough, but I still haven't come across it. Wrapped in Rubies is a close dupe to IKSD though--just a little bit darker.

be you

Day 3: Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

My family has always done a great job of making sure my brother and I were secure being ourselves. I have never struggled over whether or not I am loved. Sure, I like to please people and I want people to like me, but honestly I have never really struggled with what people think about me. I am comfortable being myself. I don't change for anyone. I am the same person no matter who I am around or what I am doing. I'm not afraid to be different. I don't have a ton of self-confidence or think I am perfect..FAR from it actually..I just know that I am not going to let anyone change me. I am who I am. My dad has always told me that other people's opinions of me are none of my business. Who cares what other people think. Be you. Do what you want to do and live your life in a way that makes YOU happy. As long as you are living and good and pleasing life to God nothing else really matters. That advice from my dad has completely shaped the way I live and has helped me to realize that it's okay to be crazy and weird and different. I know that I was made in the image of my creator and nothing in the world is more pleasing to Him than when I follow His will for my life and thank Him for everything I am. Flaws and all.. He made me. And my job is to honor and protect what He made. So I will be crazy.. I will be weird.. I will be ME. And I won't let anyone else's opinions of me change that.

nica on my mind

I'm back for another day of Blogtember. I have really enjoyed seeing lots of my blog friends participating in this challenge! It will be fun getting to know each other a little bit better.

Day 2: If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?

It's funny that this is a topic in the Blogtember challenge because I literally think about this pretty often. If I was given the chance to take 3 months off from life I would HANDS DOWN spend it in Nicaragua. I went to Nica for spring break in 2011 and I want to go back again REALLY bad. It was really nice to spend a week in a third world country where it didn't matter what you looked like, it didn't matter what you wore, no one knew what was "popular" or "cool" because that wasn't what was important to them. It was so nice to not worry about checking my phone every 5 seconds. It was nice to just live and not worry about the things that consume us in America. I have so much love in my heart for that country and its people.

 {this is hands down my FAVORITE picture of all time..Such sweet, beautiful boys}
