I'm pretty much the worst blogger ever. life has been SO full the last month and I am just praying it slows down soon. we've been gearing up for our big state assessment (starts tomorrow!) so work has been quite interesting to say the least. I also found out I will be moving classrooms next year (next to my work bff, nicole!!) so I have been busy packing up and taking things down! and to top it all off I was sick for a good 2 straight weeks...yikes!
anyway, last week I had my last small group night ever with my awesome college girls. I started in this group as a student and transitioned to co-leader once I graduated. these girls have been a BIG part of my life over the last 2 years and I am so sad for this season to end. I am excited to see where life takes everyone post-graduation though : )
we thought it would be fun to have a paint night for our last get together. my co-leader has a friend who works for artinis and does private, in-home lessons. we chose an athens theme and I think it was the perfect event for our last night together!
circles are certainly better than rows and I thankful for a church family that truly lives in circles!

I thought it would be fun to do a day in the life post about my typical work day. if you're not a teacher this post may bore you, but if you ever wondered what a typical day in a 3rd grade classroom looks like then here ya go....
I usually wake up anywhere from 5:00-5:45, depends if I shower the night before or not. I try to leave the house by 6:15.
I get to work around 7:15 and come in and get ready for the day. I start by writing my morning message and changing the date. then I will usually make sure my computer is up and running then I will spend some time in the hallway talking to the other teachers on my grade level.
The kids come in from 7:45-8:15. during this time they are working on their morning work. announcements come on around 8:00. we line up at 8:17 to go to specials. we have 5 specials that we rotate through on a 6 week rotation (we do PE twice). each week we have the same special every day. this week we have art.
during specials on mondays and fridays I usually plan/grade papers. tuesdays and thursdays we meet as a grade level and wednesdays we either meet with our literacy coach, math coach, or technology teacher. today we had technology.
I pick the kids up from specials at 9:15 and we go to the bathroom. from 9:25-9:45 I let my kids eat their snack and finish their morning work. I have several kids who are car riders or eat breakfast at school so they don't have much time to do their morning work before specials. I also have a couple kids who leave for pull-out programs (EIP, resource) during this time. usually I will check e-mails or get things ready for the day while they work.
9:45-10:00 we check grammar and review their packet. we take a grammar quiz every friday that has questions from their packet.
usually from 10:00-10:45 we have reader's workshop but since most of my students are still struggling with writing in cursive we continued working on writing their spelling words in cursive and doing other cursive practice.
we have lunch from 10:50-11:20. during this time I usually work on grad school work....booooring
after lunch we spent about 15 minutes completing unfinished work. then we have recess from 11:45-12:15 (or a little longer if the weather is nice!)
on mondays and wednesdays we go to the computer lab for an hour or so. the kids do CRCT review or math games and I lesson plan.
when we get back from the lab it's time for math calendar. we use a 4 square method and the kids really like it. it's fun because they get to use their own white boards, but it's great because it reviews old concepts and introduces new concepts. for the month of april we are going back over content from the beginning of the year to get ready for the CRCT!
on tuesdays and wedesdays the teacher next door and I switch classes for science and social studies. It's really nice only having to teach science!
this particular day we finished up our magnet notes (on our cute magnet craft!) and worked on magnet vocabulary. so far we've had a lot of fun learning about magnets!
usually our day would end after science/social studies but since we had so many days off because of the snow/ice we had to add 30 extra minutes to our school day.......
during the last 30 minutes we review for CRCT. the kids are pretty much done at this point and it's hard to get much out of them but we do our best!
I don't stick around too long after school. I usually leave as soon as I can since I have a pretty far commute. my days are always different but this is just a little glimpse into my daily life as a third grade teacher : ) Hope you enjoyed!
