Bennett | 1 Month

Bennett is one month old today! I honestly cannot believe I have been a mama for a whole month. It has flown by so fast! This past month has been a complete mix of challenging and rewarding. Honestly the first month is pure survival..learning how to be a mom is tough! Every day is different and some days are better than others but overall Bennett has been a dream! Here are some stats and updates on our little guy...

Weight: 8lbs, 5oz (as of his two week appointment so I'm sure he's more now)

Length: 21in (again, as of his two week appointment)

Hair: Even though Bennett still has a ton of hair, a lot of it has fallen out! It's also growing back a lot lighter. It has started to get out of control (especially after bath time!) but I love it! His hair is definitely one of my favorite things about him.

Eyes: Really blue! I'm hoping they stay that way : )

Clothes: Most newborn clothes still fit him but sometimes they're a little snug (depends on the brand). I have a feeling we'll be moving up to 0-3 months soon.

Diapers: Newborn but will probably move to size 1 in the next few weeks.

Sleeping: It depends on the day but typically Bennett is a great sleeper! I think his favorite time to sleep is in the car. He is OUT before we even get out of the neighborhood. He's started sleeping longer stretches at night..typically feeds at midnight and then again at 5 or 6am. For the first few weeks Bennett slept in our room with us in his MamaRoo but a few weeks ago we started sleeping in the living room because it's a lot easier to be near the kitchen in the middle of the night for feedings. BT is still sleeping in his MamaRoo and loves it! I finally got brave enough to let Bennett take a few naps in his crib. He does pretty good but only lasts 30 minutes or so. baby steps!

Likes: Bennett loves to be on the go! His best days are when we are crazy busy and going a million places. He loves being in the car and going on walks. He is also obsessed with his paci and wants it in his mouth 24/7 (cute right now but could be a terrible thing down the road..ah!).

Dislikes: Bennett HATES being hungry. He breaks out into the saddest cry in the entire world when it is time to eat. He also hates having a poopy diaper (but who wouldn't?!) Other than the first few weeks of severe reflux and gas Bennett has been a really happy baby!

Eating: Feeding has been a struggle for us. I started breastfeeding in the hospital right away and things were going great. Bennett had no trouble latching, stayed awake the whole feeding, and seemed content when he was finished. Then we got home and everything changed. Every time I would BF he would cry SO hard after. I never felt like he was satisfied but I knew I couldnt nurse for hours to fill him up. When we went to his pediatrician 4 days after he was born we talked about options and decided to start supplementing with formula to help with his weight gain. Bennett took the bottle like a champ and still continued BF'ing. He never had any issues with nipple confusion or going back in forth between breast milk and formula. The only problem was I was still having to give a bottle every time after BF'ing because he was never satisfied. It made feeding him a really huge ordeal and not enjoyable at all for either of us. I kept with it for a few more weeks and tried everything to get my supply up but ultimately decided to switch to formula exclusively. Was this what I had in mind for feeding my baby? Not at all. But I knew it was the right decision for us. I felt so guilty when we made the switch (still do..) but I'm trying to remind myself that I am doing my best and this does not make me less of a mom. (reallllly trying to believe that as I type this....)

Milestones: Bennett has been doing really good with holding his head up. Any time we are holding him he pulls his head up and looks around. I know this is going to sound crazy and I wish I had video evidence to prove it but the other day before tummy time Bennett rolled over from his back to his front. I couldn't believe it and of course he never did it again but I still thought it was super awesome :) Bennett has also been smiling a lot over the last few days. Adam and I have both seen him do it and it's so stinking cute!!

Baby items we can't live without: Obviously during the first couple of months we aren't going to use too much baby equipment but there are a few things we couldn't live without right now! The MamaRoo has been so good for napping/sleeping. Bennett loves the car ride option ; ) We also love Wubbanub pacis! BT has the brown puppy and is seriously obsessed with it. If it's not in his mouth he has his arms around it. I love that it's a lovey and a paci in one. Also, when I was breast feeding the My Brest Friend pillow was a MUST!

I am so thankful to be a mama and even though it can be challenging sometimes I feel like I am really starting to get into a groove with taking care of Bennett and it has been so amazing. I still can't believe he is ours forever : )

And this is how BT feels about photo shoots.... ; )

  1. I love you, friend! You are a great Mama! Don't listen to anyone who says differently. :)

  2. BEST MAMA EVER!! You are such an encouragement to me.

  3. You are such a great momma already! With only a few weeks left until our due date, I finally had to come to the conclusion that you do what's best for your family, not based off of everyone else's opinions. He looks happy and healthy, and that's all that matters! (Oh and his full head of hair is too cute!!)

  4. That last picture of Bennett is adorable! I am sure you're doing an amazing job as a new mom. My cousin had a baby two weeks before you (also a boy) and all his hair fell out on his Christmas day bath! So sad but it quickly grew back. :)
